Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most-searched gifting occasion in India in 2026?
By The Gifting Matrix's own search data, birthday is the most-searched gifting occasion, drawing 42% of all gift searches, ahead of farewell and raksha bandhan. Raksha Bandhan ranks #3.
What budget do Indians search for gifts in?
Gift searches concentrate at the lower and mid range: 84% of all gift searches are for gifts priced ₹3,000 or under, when the under-₹3,000 budget bands are added together. Luxury and ₹5,000-plus budgets are a small minority of search demand.
Who do Indians search for gifts for the most?
Best Friend (18%), brothers and sisters are the most-searched gift recipients — everyday relationships rather than the corporate tier that dominates market-spend figures.
Does this index show what Indians actually buy or spend on gifts?
No. It measures what people search for as gifts, not what they purchase, how much they spend, or what is most popular to give. Search demand and our guide coverage are not sales or spend figures, and should not be read as such.
How is the India Gift-Search Index compiled?
It combines two datasets we own: The Gifting Matrix's library of 273 recipient-by-occasion-by-budget gift guides across 19 occasions and 18 recipient types, and our own anonymised Google Search Console demand (2026-07-06 to 2026-08-03). Occasions, recipients and budgets are ranked by real search demand.

Methodology & What This Does Not Say

  • Two datasets, both ours. The Gifting Matrix’s library of 273 recipient × occasion × budget gift guides, and our own anonymised Google Search Console demand (2026-07-06 to 2026-08-03), 5,809 gift-search impressions.
  • Search demand is not sales or spend. It measures what people search for as gifts — not what they buy, how much they spend, or what is most popular to give. It complements market-spend reports (see our market statistics); it does not replace them.
  • Coverage caveat. Occasions and recipients we have not built guides for cannot appear in the ranking, so this reflects the most-searched combinations within our library, which we expand continuously.
